Cold Metal Transfer Welding process

A modified arc welding process featuring extremely low heat input droplet transfer through cyclic wire retraction, significantly minimizing thermal distortion.

CMT is a short-arc process where the wire is mechanically retracted as soon as the short circuit occurs. This tears off the droplet without a current spike, keeping heat input minimal. It's ideal for thin sheets and root passes because you get little distortion and less dilution. It's important that wire feed speed and retraction frequency are properly matched – if they're not, it spatters and the weld becomes unstable. Set the parameters so the arc burns calmly and controlled, then the process runs stable.
