Haigh Diagram

A diagram showing how high the stresses in components may be during their service. It helps in evaluating components under non-uniform loading.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The fatigue strength diagram shows the maximum allowable stress amplitude for a given mean stress and a defined number of cycles. It accounts for loading by pulsating or alternating loads.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Under non-uniform loading, components can fail prematurely and cracks can occur. The fatigue strength diagram helps to set allowable stresses to avoid cracking.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use the diagram to determine the allowable stress for components under non-uniform loading. Regularly check the loading and adjust stresses accordingly. If you have questions about correct application, consult the manufacturer or a metallurgist.
