Deoxidizer granulate

Deoxidizer granulate is a fine-grained additive that chemically binds dissolved oxygen in the weld pool, forming harmless slag inclusions. It prevents porosity and improves weld strength.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Deoxidizer granulate consists of chemical compounds that can absorb oxygen from their surroundings. These reactions prevent free oxygen from reacting at the metal surface, which would otherwise cause porosity.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Without sufficient deoxidizer granulate, pores can form in the weld. These pores weaken the weld and increase the risk of cracking and hot cracking. However, too much granulate can lead to undesired slag inclusions that damage the surface.

Shop Practice & Action Instructions

Use an appropriate amount of deoxidizer granulate depending on the metal type and welding process. Typically, the addition is 1 to 2% of the weld metal (by weight). Ensure the granulate is well dissolved in the liquid and evenly distributed in the weld pool.
