Densitometer Strip
A density strip is a calibration tool used to quantitatively determine the blackening on radiographic films to verify the quality of radiographic testing.
Physicochemical mechanism of action
A density strip is made of a material of known density and is placed in the radiation area. The blackening on the film, produced by the material's penetrating ability, gives a direct indication of its density.
Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding
Accurate determination of blackening is crucial for quality assurance in weld inspection. Inaccurate measurement can lead to wrong assessments, which in turn leads to missed or excessive repairs and potentially wastes time and material.
Workshop practice & instructions
Use the density strip regularly during radiographic testing. Ensure it is placed correctly and the measurement is done under the same conditions. The blackening should be in the center of the strip, and the boundaries should be clearly defined. If in doubt, consult the manufacturer's instructions or contact a qualified technician.
