Diffusion Annealing Equalization Time

A long-term high-temperature treatment to reduce microscopic concentration gradients within cast or forged microstructures. It homogenizes the alloy distribution throughout the volume.

During diffusion annealing, you let the workpiece sit at high temperature for a long time after welding. This allows the elements in the alloy to distribute evenly in the structure and concentration differences break down. If you don't do this, hard or brittle spots remain in the material, which can later lead to cracks. The correct temperature and holding time depend on the alloy, so you have to check the data sheet. It's important that the part cools slowly and evenly, otherwise you ruin the effect again.
