Homogenization Annealing
Prolonged high-temperature thermal treatment designed to reduce chemical micro-segregation and equalize element distribution within the metal matrix.
In diffusion annealing, you heat the workpiece so that the elements in the structure can migrate and concentration differences equalize. You usually do this before further processing to homogenize the structure and improve machinability. It is important to cool slowly and controlled, otherwise the material can become brittle or internal stresses can build up. The exact temperature and holding time depend on the material and component size.
