Diffusion Brazing Process
Joining process in which a thin interlayer is chemically absorbed into the base material through isothermal solidification and subsequent homogenization. It increases high-temperature strength.
Diffusion brazing is a joining process where you place a thin interlayer between the parts and hold the whole thing isothermally under pressure and heat. The interlayer melts or diffuses into the base material, making the joint zone homogeneous, so you practically have no separating seam. The whole process is slow, so you need patience. If you cool too quickly or choose too short a holding time, the diffusion remains incomplete and you get a porous or brittle joint. Cleanliness of the faying surfaces is crucial, otherwise impurities migrate into the seam and degrade the mechanical properties.
