Diffusion Temperature
Thermal threshold above which thermally activated atom hopping processes within the crystal lattice are significantly accelerated.
The diffusion temperature is the temperature from which atoms in the metal lattice can migrate noticeably. In welding, this is important because too little diffusion leads to residual stresses and cracks, while too much degrades the structure and causes distortion. You must therefore control the heat input so that cooling is neither too rapid nor too slow. When in doubt, follow the material manufacturer's specifications and observe the color and behavior of the workpiece.
