Digital Radiography

Digital radiography is a non-destructive testing method that detects internal and external defects in metal parts using X-rays or gamma rays. It shows incomplete weld areas, internal cracks, or material loss.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Digital radiography (DR) uses high-energy radiation such as X-rays or gamma rays. These rays are passed through the metal and captured on a detector. Defects in the material alter the path of the rays, which appears as a pattern on the image.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

DR is particularly important for testing weld quality and strength control. Failed weld attempts, cracks, or material loss can be difficult to detect. Inaccurate interpretation of images can lead to false results.

Workshop Practice & Operating Instructions

For correct execution, it is crucial that the testing device is calibrated and the radiation voltage is optimized. The metal parts should be clean and dry. The images must be carefully evaluated to ensure no defects are missed.
