Direct Digital Line Scan Radiography

Direct digital line-scan radiography is a continuous radiographic testing method using linear X-ray detectors that automatically inspects pipes and cylindrical vessels. It offers high resolution and fast throughput.

Physicochemical Mechanism

Direct digital line-scan radiography uses continuous X-rays that pass through the material being inspected. Linear detectors capture the transmitted intensity and convert it directly into digital images.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

This technique is especially suited for inspecting pipes and cylindrical vessels because it provides a detailed view of the internal structure. It can detect cracks, deformations, and other defects with high precision. One risk is that incorrect settings or faulty detectors can lead to inaccurate results.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To use direct digital line-scan radiography effectively, follow these steps:

• Ensure the material and the radiation angle are set correctly.

• Use sufficient X-ray energy to achieve the desired resolution.

• Regularly check the detectors for functionality and calibrate them if needed.

• Carefully analyze the images for anomalies and compare them with reference images to identify defects.
