Double-V butt joint preparation

Symmetrical joint preparation with double-sided V-bevels for heavy plate thicknesses, minimizing filler metal consumption. Alternating welding helps reduce distortion.

You weld the double-V groove from both sides. The point is that with thick plates you need less filler material because the joint is filled from both sides and stress distributes better. It's important to prepare the joint cleanly and evenly and weld both sides alternately so the part doesn't distort too much. If you weld only one side completely, it will pull the joint totally crooked.
