Wire Drive Roll
The wire feed roller is a profiled wheel in the feed unit that advances the welding wire without slippage. The profiling must match the wire diameter.
Physico-chemical mechanism of action
The wire feed roller has a special profiling that holds the welding wire firmly and at the same time advances it without slipping. This prevents distortion or breakage of the wire during feeding.
Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding
Incorrectly matched rollers can kink or damage the wire, leading to irregular feed rates and possible cracks. A profile that is too narrow can lock the wire, while a profile that is too wide displaces it and impairs guiding.
Workshop practice & action instructions
The rollers must be checked regularly to ensure they are correctly profiled. When using a new wire diameter, the roller must be adjusted or changed. A feed rate of 10-20 m/min is typical for most applications.
