Penetrant

Penetrants are low-viscosity liquids with high wetting ability that penetrate into cracks and pores by capillary forces.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism

Penetrants are liquids with low viscosity and strong wetting properties. They can penetrate into fine cracks and pores due to capillary forces, as they minimize surface energy.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

Penetrants are used to remove oxygen from the melt and prevent pore formation. If not used correctly, they can lead to uneven melting or excessive cooling, resulting in cracks or lack of weld volume.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use penetrants in the correct amount and concentration. Ensure the liquid penetrates the surface well and welding conditions are optimal. Monitor cooling carefully to avoid cracking.
