Electron Beam Focusing Coil

A coil for precise focusing of an electron beam, enabling high power density and narrow weld seam.

Physicochemical mechanism of action

The coil generates a magnetic field that focuses the electron beam. This increases the power density of the beam and improves its directionality.

Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding

Precise focusing leads to high energy concentration in the weld zone, affecting material distortion and microstructure. Incorrect handling can result in uneven weld seam or material fusion.

Shop practice & instructions

The coil should be adjusted so that the electron beam is focused at the desired position. Voltage and current must be precisely controlled. High voltage increases power density but also the risk of material fusion.
