Electropolishing

Anodic dissolution of microscopic roughness peaks for smoothing and simultaneously passivating metal surfaces in specialized electrolytes.

Electropolishing is an electrochemical removal process. The workpiece is connected as the anode and is uniformly removed in the electrolyte bath, smoothing and refining the surface. It removes the heat tint and the depleted zone from welding, restoring corrosion resistance. If you don't hit the parameters cleanly, the bath will eat away the edges rather than smoothing the surface, or the surface will become dull and rough. Thorough degreasing beforehand is a must, otherwise the result will be patchy. After polishing, you must rinse thoroughly so that no electrolyte residue remains on the surface.
