Electrostatic Welding Fume Filter
An electrostatic welding fume filter uses a high-voltage field to ionize fine particles and collect them on collector plates. This allows for a high separation efficiency with low pressure drop.
Physical-chemical mechanism of action
The electrostatic welding fume filter uses a high-voltage field that ionizes the fine dust particles in the welding fume. These charged particles are then attracted to oppositely charged collector plates and deposited there.
Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding
This technology is especially useful when processing high-grade steels, as it effectively removes fine dust particles with a diameter under 1 µm. A too-low separation efficiency can lead to contamination of the workpiece and impair the quality of the weld seam.
Workshop practice & instructions for use
To use the electrostatic welding fume filter effectively, note the following:
• Make sure the high-voltage field is set correctly (usually between 10,000 and 30,000 volts).
• Check the collector plates regularly for overloading and clean them when necessary.
• Make sure the airflow through the filter is not too high to avoid pressure losses.
