Endoscopic Examination
Endoscopic inspection is an optical visual test of hard-to-reach internal spaces and cavities using flexible or rigid endoscopes.
Physico-chemical mechanism of action
Endoscopic inspection uses a long, narrow optical device (endoscope) that is guided through an entry point into the body or a machine. It consists of a light source and a camera that captures images and displays them via a monitor.
Metallurgical relevance & risks during welding
In the workshop, endoscopic inspection can be used to detect internal weld defects or signs of corrosion. Mishandling the endoscope can damage the material or lead to inaccurate results.
Workshop practice & instructions
When performing an endoscopic inspection:
• Make sure the device is clean and properly calibrated.
• Use the right type of endoscope (flexible or rigid) for the respective application.
• Handle the device safely to avoid damage.
• Use the device only in a clean environment and follow the manufacturer's instructions.
