Endoscopic Visual Testing
Endoscopic visual inspection is a method for the optical inspection of weld microstructures and zones using a special camera system. It enables precise analysis of defects such as pores, cracks, or irregularities.
Physico-chemical mechanism of action
Endoscopic visual inspection uses a microscope with a special lighting system that allows visualizing the weld and its surroundings in high resolution. The light is directed through a thin light guide and reflected from the metal surface.
Metallurgical relevance & risks during welding
This method is particularly important for controlling weld microstructures because it makes microscopic defects visible that other test methods might miss. Pores, cracks, or uneven deformations can lead to strength failure and safety risks.
Workshop practice & instructions
Endoscopic visual inspection should be carried out immediately after welding, before the metal cools down. A special endoscope is used, which is attached to the weld and displays the imaging on a monitor. The practice requires careful preparation of the weld and precise interpretation of the images.
