Heating-Induced Recrystallization
The formation of a dislocation-free microstructure through thermal supply following prior cold deformation. This restores the original ductility of the material.
If you properly anneal cold-formed material before welding, the stress in the structure is relieved and the part becomes softer and tougher again. The temperature and how long you hold the part at temperature depend entirely on the material – only a look at the data sheet helps here. If you skip this, you'll quickly get cracks in the weld area, especially with sheets or profiles that were previously cold-worked.
