Recovery Process Kinetics
The chronological sequence of reducing lattice defects and dislocation densities prior to the onset of recrystallization. It determines the reduction of stored deformation energies.
When welding and heat treating, it's about letting the structure settle after cooling. If you cool the material too fast or there's too much stress, the structure stays hard and stressed, making it brittle and prone to cracking. Give the workpiece time to cool after welding so the structure can relax and become tougher again. For thick or heavily clamped parts, that means: don't force it, let it cool slowly.
