Downward vertical welding position

A welding position on vertical components where deposition proceeds downwards, primarily utilized for thinner sheets or pipelines at high welding speeds. It requires precise torch manipulation to prevent lack of fusion.

When welding a downhill seam, you weld from top to bottom. The molten pool always runs after you and lies below the weld spot. If you don't guide the torch cleanly, air can get to the liquid metal and cause pores in the seam. Keep the torch angle so that you keep the pool under control and it doesn't run ahead. For thin sheet metal or if you want to work faster, you can use shielding gas to cover the melt from the air.
