Paint Coating System
A paint system consists of multiple layers: primer, intermediate, and topcoat. Each layer has specific functions such as adhesion, barrier, and UV resistance.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
A paint system consists of several layers, each with different functions. The primer forms a bonding layer between the metal and the topcoats to ensure adhesion. The intermediate coat protects the primer from corrosion and improves adhesion of the topcoats. The topcoat provides protection against chemical influences and UV light.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
If applied incorrectly or if the temperature gets too high during welding, the paint system can be damaged. The paints can ignite when exposed to high temperatures and lose their protective function. This leads to corrosion and reduced service life of the metal.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Before welding the metal, the paint system must be carefully removed. Use a suitable remover and make sure no layers are lost. After welding, the metal can be repainted to restore the protective layer. Pay attention to correct application of the paints and the proper drying time.
