Defect Evaluation
Imperfection assessment compares welding imperfections against standards. It determines whether the component is acceptable or not.
Physicochemical Mechanism of Action
Imperfection assessment involves measuring and analyzing irregularities in a weld. These can be visual defects, mechanical weak points, or chemical contaminants.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
Incorrect assessment can lead to safety risks. Unacceptable components may be accepted, leading to cracking or failure in service. At the same time, unnecessary rework and rejection can cause costs.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
Use standardized measuring equipment and methods for imperfection detection. Compare the results with relevant standards (e.g., EN, ISO). If the irregularities exceed the permitted limits, mark the component as unacceptable and take appropriate rework or rejection actions.
