Quality Level for Imperfections

The imperfection assessment group classifies permitted irregularities in welded joints based on application requirements. Each group has specific tolerances and hardness limits.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The imperfection assessment group (FEG) is a system to classify irregularities in welded joints. It takes into account the application and the material of the joint.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

The FEG determines what types and severities of irregularities are acceptable in a weld. A too high assessment group can lead to reduced mechanical properties and increased risk of cracking.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

In the workshop, the FEG is used to check weld quality. The specific group (FEG 1 to FEG 3) must match the material and application. For FEG 1 no irregularities are allowed, for FEG 2 limited irregularities are permitted, while FEG 3 has larger tolerances.
