Fine Blanking

A specialized stamping process for producing burr-free precision parts with smooth cut surfaces, often utilized as preparation for weld assemblies.

Fine blanking is a shearing process where the sheet is clamped with additional counter pressure and a blank holder so that a smooth, crack-free cut is produced. The material is not broken through but cleanly sheared. If you want to weld afterwards, the clean cut edge is a big advantage because you have no cracks or work hardening in the edge zone. The edge must be free of burr and contamination, then you get a proper weld seam. Make sure the tool is sharp and the pressure is right. If the pressure is too low, the material tears; if it is too high, the tool wears unnecessarily. Check the cut surface for uniform sheen and cracks.
