Hot-Dip Galvanizing
Application of a zinc coating by submerging cleaned steel into a molten zinc bath, forming iron-zinc alloy layers.
Hot-dip galvanizing means: steel is dipped into molten zinc. This creates a zinc-iron alloy layer that protects the steel from rust. If the zinc bath is not hot enough or the steel stays in too short, the layer becomes too thin or uneven. If the bath is too hot or you hang the part in too long, the alloy can become brittle or zinc can corrode. When welding galvanized sheet, you must remove the zinc layer in the weld area beforehand, otherwise there will be pores and toxic fumes.
