Surface Coverage

Surface coverage is the fraction of a material's surface that is covered by corrosion protection agents or physical protective coatings. A high coverage degree protects better against rusting and material loss.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

Surface coverage describes how much of the material's surface is covered by protective agents or coatings. This affects the chemical environment and prevents direct contact with air and water, which prevents corrosion.

Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding

A low surface coverage can lead to insufficient corrosion protection, causing rust and material waste. This can shorten the service life of components or machine parts.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

To ensure effective surface coverage, follow these steps:

• Apply corrosion protection in the correct thickness and amount.

• Make sure the surface is clean and free of holes or cracks that the protective agent cannot reach.

• Allow the recommended drying time after applying the agent to ensure a dense coverage.
