Flank alignment accuracy

Flank alignment is the precise positioning of the sheet edges relative to each other before fixing. It ensures the correct joint shape and prevents distortion.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

Flank alignment determines how the sheet edges come into contact during the welding process. Precise alignment leads to a uniform connection and prevents uneven stresses.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Incorrect flank alignment can lead to distortion, cracks, or irregularities in the weld. This impairs the mechanical properties and lifespan of the weld.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

Ensure that the sheet edges are aligned exactly parallel to each other. Use special tools such as flank gauges or laser scanners for this purpose. A tolerance of maximum 0.1 mm is common. Pay attention to a straight and flat edge to ensure a homogeneous weld.
