Centrifugal shot peening
Centrifugal shot blasting accelerates metal shot with a rotating impeller and directs them into the material surface. This ensures a uniform mass flow for reproducible stress introduction.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
Centrifugal shot blasting accelerates metal shot with a rotating impeller. The shot is then directed into the material surface, causing plastic deformation and introduction of stress.
Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks
The uniform mass flow in centrifugal shot blasting ensures homogeneous stress introduction, leading to improved material properties. However, an uneven mass flow can cause stress imbalances and thus cracks or damage in the material.
Workshop Practice & Instructions
For effective centrifugal shot blasting, the impeller must be correctly adjusted. The impeller speed should be selected so that the mass flow fits the material. Too high speed can overload the shot and lead to uneven stress distribution.
