Flux Oxide Removal

Flux oxide removal is the process where metal oxides on the workpiece surface are dissolved and removed by the flux. This enables clean wetting for soldering.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The flux reacts chemically with metal oxides on the surface and dissolves them. It binds free oxygen atoms, leading to deoxidation.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without effective oxide removal, the solder filler metal can react with oxides and become contaminated. This leads to poor joints, porosity, and low weld strength.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Use a flux with high deoxidizing power before soldering. The application time should be at least 30 seconds to ensure complete oxide removal.
