Flux Residues

Flux residues are chemical contaminants on the surface after the soldering process that can be corrosive. They must be removed to avoid corrosion and impurities.

Physico-chemical mechanism of action

Flux residues are chemical compounds that remain on the metal surface during the soldering process. They can consist of the flux itself or of additives and can be corrosive.

Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding

Flux residues can cause corrosion that damages the metal and shortens its service life. They can also release harmful substances that make the workpiece dangerous or impair its functionality.

Workshop practice & instructions

After the soldering process, flux residues must be thoroughly removed. This can be done by mechanical post-treatment (abrasion) or chemical post-treatment (cleaning with cleaning fluids). It is important that the surface is completely cleaned to avoid corrosion and harmful substances.
