Flux-Coated Hardfacing Electrode
A welding additive that embeds hard carbide phases into a tough matrix to protect component surfaces against abrasive wear.
Hardfacing with covered electrodes is about depositing a wear-resistant layer on the part. The coating brings the alloying elements that form hard carbides in the melt. These are embedded in a tougher matrix, giving you abrasion resistance. Make sure you don't do too much or too little hardfacing. Too soft means wear will eat away the part; too hard makes the structure brittle and it can crack or become unmachinable. In practice, you just have to work cleanly: guide the electrode properly, keep an eye on the interpass temperature, and don't deposit too much at once. If the layer cracks or flakes off, preheating or welding technique was wrong.
