Backing gas dosing unit

The forming gas dosing unit precisely regulates the flow rate of inert gases during root welding to prevent porosity and keep the weld secure.

Physico-Chemical Working Mechanism

The forming gas dosing unit ensures a constant flow of inert gases (like argon or helium) into the pipe interior. This protects the weld material from oxygen and water vapor, which could cause corrosion and porosity.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Without precise dosing, there can be insufficient protection of the pipe or excessive gas supply. Both scenarios lead to porosity, which compromises the strength of the weld and can cause cracks.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

The dosing unit should be set to achieve a constant flow rate of 10-20 l/min. This value varies depending on pipe diameter and material. If necessary, regularly check the gas supply and adjust the settings accordingly.
