Backing Gas Pressure Monitoring

Continuous pressure monitoring of the backing gas inside pipelines ensures that a constant positive pressure relative to the atmosphere is maintained to prevent the root bead from sagging. Conversely, excessive pressure can lead to the rupture of the solidifying root.

The purge gas presses against the root from the inside so it doesn't sag. The pressure must be constantly monitored. If it's too low, the root falls through; if it's too high, the weld cracks open. You have to set the pressure so it holds the root without blowing it out. Check the gauges regularly, then it'll be fine.
