Joining Process

Joining processes are methods for permanently connecting solid bodies, divided into welding, brazing, and adhesive bonding. In metal construction, welding is the primary fusion joining technique.

Physicochemical Action Mechanism

Joining processes bond materials together through chemical or mechanical means to permanently connect them. Welding, for example, joins metals by bonding their atoms using heat and pressure. Brazing uses a fusible binder, while adhesive bonding creates a chemical reaction between materials.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

In metal construction, welding is the most important joining technique. It allows joining metals without neglecting their mechanical properties. However, faulty welding can lead to cracks, hot cracks, or insufficient strength.

Workshop Practice & Procedures

When welding, it is crucial to choose the right joining method. This depends on the materials. For metals, TIG welding is often used because it offers high precision and requires low heat input. For other materials like plastics or glass, brazing or adhesive bonding is the appropriate method.
