Flux-cored wire core

The flux core is the inner core of the flux-cored wire, made up of powder mixtures. It affects arc stability and slag formation.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

The flux core consists of a mixture of metals and compounds that are converted to liquid during welding. This liquid forms a slag that stabilizes the arc and supports the welding process.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

A missing or poorly developed flux core can lead to arc instability, resulting in voltage fluctuations and possibly irregular weld quality. Additionally, a missing core can hinder slag formation, making welding more difficult and increasing the risk of porosity.

Workshop Practice & Instructions

Make sure the flux core is properly developed. This can be achieved by appropriate voltage settings and a suitable welding speed. Monitor slag formation and ensure stable arc development.
