Bevel Flank Angle
The groove angle is the inclination angle of the machined workpiece edge to the component surface. It optimizes the accessibility of the arc and minimizes the weld metal volume.
Physico-chemical mechanism of action
The groove angle affects how well the arc penetrates the joint. A steep angle (approx. 45°) increases accessibility and improves weld quality.
Metallurgical relevance & welding risks
A too-large angle can lead to uneven weld formation, which can result in cracks or irregularities in the structure. A too-small angle, on the other hand, narrows the joint and increases the risk of porosity.
Workshop practice & instructions
For optimal weld quality, the groove angle should be set to 45°. This angle provides a good balance between accessibility and avoiding porosity. For complex components or special materials, the angle can be slightly adjusted to improve the weld.
