Gas-Shielded Consumable Wire

A filler wire used in gas-shielded welding to compensate for dimensional tolerances and ensure desired mechanical properties.

Physical-chemical mechanism

The gas-shielded filler wire is fed into the molten pool during gas-shielded welding. It mixes with the metal and thus compensates for dimensional tolerances. This improves the homogeneity of the weld.

Metallurgical relevance & risks in welding

A missing or incorrect filler wire can lead to uneven stresses and irregularities in the weld. This increases the risk of cracks and reduces the mechanical properties of the joint.

Workshop practice & instructions

Choose the correct filler wire based on the desired material and the specific requirements of the welding process. Ensure that the wire is fed correctly and that the required gas supply settings are maintained.
