Oxy-Fuel Powder Welding

An oxy-fuel fusion welding and surfacing process where metal powder is fed into the torch stream using oxygen and fuel gas to melt onto the component. It is primarily used for repairs and applying hard, wear-resistant surface layers.

In gas welding with powder filler, you melt the powder in the flame and apply it to the workpiece. You lay it down as a hard, wear-resistant layer or repair edges and surfaces with it. If you don't feed the powder evenly and in the right ratio to the gas, the layer becomes irregular or gets pores. Don't let the layer cool too quickly, otherwise it will become hard and prone to cracking. You have to get a feel for how much powder you melt in what time and how you maintain the heat in the workpiece so that the layer bonds cleanly and doesn't flake off.
