Gas flow dynamics

Gas flow dynamics describes the behavior of the shielding gas in the torch nozzle to ensure a smooth and stable shielding of the weld zone.

Physicochemical Mechanism of Action

The shielding gas is pushed through the torch nozzle and forms a thin layer around the workpiece. The velocity and direction of gas flow affect how well the gas covers and protects the workpiece.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Uneven or unstable gas flow can lead to porosity and hot cracking. The shielding gas must cover the entire weld area to ensure optimal temperature control and material behavior.

Workshop Practice & Action Instructions

Ensure gas flow is even. Regularly check gas pressure and nozzle for bubbles or gaps. If necessary, adjust torch position or nozzle.
