Structure-matched (matching filler)

A structure-matched filler is identical in alloy to the base material and matches its microstructure, hardness and polishability (typically 35–45 HRC for mould steels). The right choice for standard repairs where the weld must behave exactly like the part.

Structure-matched means filler and base material end up in the same microstructural condition after welding — same hardness, same toughness, same polishability. Advantage: the repaired area is barely visible and behaves identically. Limit: under real abrasion a matching filler wears down as fast as the base itself — there a structure-improved filler is the better choice.
