Globular solidification

A solidification mode characterized by the formation of equiaxed, granular crystallites instead of elongated dendrites, leading to a finer and isotropic microstructure.

Globular solidification simply means that the weld metal solidifies in fine, round grains rather than in long, columnar crystals. This gives you a uniform, isotropic structure that is tougher and less prone to cracking. To achieve this, you mainly need to ensure controlled, uniform cooling of the weld. Too fast or too slow cooling will make the structure coarse and the weld brittle. So: dissipate heat in a targeted manner and keep an eye on the cooling rate, then it will work out.
