Globular Retained Austenite Remnant

Fine, island-like rounded retained austenite areas in high-strength steels that absorb mechanical energy via TRIP effects.

Globular retained austenite is a microstructural constituent that occurs in some high-strength steels. It can form in the heat-affected zone during welding and affects the mechanical properties of the weld. If you don't control it properly during welding, it can lead to toughness problems. Make sure the cooling isn't too fast so the structure doesn't transform unfavorably. The exact settings depend on the base material, so you need to follow the data sheet.
