Annealing Furnace

An annealing furnace is a thermally insulated industrial furnace for performing heat treatment processes with precise temperature control and a defined furnace atmosphere.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action

An annealing furnace heats metals or workpieces in a closed space, with temperature continuously monitored and controlled. This enables specific metallurgical changes such as hardening, forming, or surface treatment.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Proper heat treatment in an annealing furnace is critical for weld quality. Too high temperatures can cause melting or distortion, while too low temperatures fail to achieve the desired metal behavior. Uneven heat distribution can cause stress and cracks in the workpiece.

Workshop Practice & Action Guidelines

When using an annealing furnace, the following steps must be observed:

1. Oven preparation: Ensure the furnace is clean and dry, and the atmosphere is set correctly (e.g., oxygen level).

2. Temperature control: Use a thermostat for exact temperature regulation. The target temperature depends on the metal being treated and the desired process.

3. Soaking time: Determine the correct soaking time based on the workpiece size and specific heat treatment requirements.

4. Post-treatment: After the heat treatment process, allow the workpiece to cool, either in the furnace atmosphere or in the open air.
