Annealing temperature
The specifically adjusted holding temperature during a thermal stress-relieving, recovery, or recrystallization process to reduce thermodynamic non-equilibrium states within the material.
You always have to match the annealing temperature to the material. If you anneal too hot, the structure coarsens and the steel loses hardness and toughness – that quickly leads to cracks. If you anneal too low, the material won't get properly soft or won't be sufficiently stress-relieved. Especially with high-alloy steels, that's a fine line – you have to stick to the data sheet or ask the foreman.
