Annealing duration
The period during which a workpiece is maintained at the annealing temperature to allow diffusion processes or phase transformations to complete.
Soaking time is the time the workpiece is held at temperature to allow the structure to transform and stresses to relieve. If annealed too short, the structure remains uneven and the desired properties are not achieved. If you leave it in too long, grain can grow or unwanted structural constituents can form that embrittle the part. The right time depends on the material and wall thickness, so you have to follow the data sheet and not just treat parts by feel.
