Segregation Phenomena in Weld Claddings
Gnadenlose Aufschwimm-Entmischung in claddings is a local segregation of alloying elements during cladding, leading to inhomogeneities that impair the weld metal.
Physical-Chemical Mechanism of Action
During cladding of corrosion protection layers, alloying elements may locally segregate from the melt. This leads to uneven distribution of composition in the weld metal.
Metallurgical Relevance & Risks in Welding
The inhomogeneities cause weak spots and can lead to cracks or failures in the weld metal. This may impair mechanical properties and reduce component life.
Workshop Practice & Action Instructions
To avoid Gnadenlose Aufschwimm-Entmischung, ensure good shielding of the molten pool from drafts and contaminants. Control and keep the temperature constant. Use high-quality cladding and ensure careful deposition.
