Cast iron welding rod
A nickel-rich or iron-based filler material for cold or warm repair welding of flake graphite cast iron. It reduces hardening in the transition zone by forming a ductile microstructure.
Grey cast iron rods are specially made for welding cast iron with lamellar graphite. They are mostly nickel-based, which keeps the weld seam soft and easily machinable instead of hard and brittle. You can work with them cold or with preheating, depending on the thickness of the workpiece and the amount of stress. It's important to cool slowly to prevent cracks. They are ideal for post-weld machining because the material doesn't harden quickly.
