Single-bevel groove

A half-V groove is an asymmetric joint preparation with one right angle, used in T-joints or special access situations. It provides better tensile strength and weld quality.

Physical-Chemical Mechanism

The half-V groove has a rectangular shape with one straight side and one beveled side. This shape improves stress distribution in the joint and prevents stress concentrations, leading to better weld quality and higher tensile strength.

Metallurgical Relevance & Welding Risks

Proper use of the half-V groove reduces the likelihood of cracks and stress concentrations. Incorrect use can lead to uneven stress distribution, causing weld defects and reduced strength.

Shop Practice & Instructions

Use the half-V groove for T-joints or special access situations. Make sure the groove is clean and dry before welding. Use appropriate welding process and parameters to ensure even stress distribution.
