Hastelloy C molybdenum content

The characteristically high proportion of the alloying element molybdenum that stabilizes the passivation layer in reducing acids and minimizes general corrosion.

Molybdenum is an important alloying element of Hastelloy C and provides resistance to reducing acids. When welding, you have to be careful that the alloy doesn't burn out and that segregations in the weld metal are avoided. Too much heat input and slow cooling promote the precipitation of brittle phases that kill the corrosion resistance. Keep the interpass temperature low and work quickly, then the structure stays clean and crack-free.
